Sikh Police. I was pleased to find out that there are now almost 70 Sikhs serving as uniformed officers in London's Metropolitan Police Service. Twelve of these wear a dastaar. It was nice to see pictures of Sikh policemen with their dastaars with police bands and badges on them in recent press articles (see Sikhs in the News22/4/01), but after comments by the serving police officers they no longer have to wear the bands and badges, which were uncomfortable to wear for the officers. Sikh police women are also permitted to wear a dastaar if they so wish.
